On the 22th of July, 2018, Andrzej Bargiel made the first full ski descent of K2 (8611m,🇵🇰🇨🇳), worlds second highest mountain. He descended from the summit to the basecamp without removing the skis and without the use of supplementary oxygen for ascent (~3 days) and descent (~7 hours). During his over 3600 vertical metre descent, he first followed the Abruzzi Spur in the top section, then plunged down the Cesen route to camp 3, before traversing below the séracs on the route of the Messner Variation in order to join the the Kukucka - Piotrowski line (Polish route from 1986) to the base camp. In his achievement, Bargiel was supported by Janusz Gołąb, Piotr Pawlus and Marek Ogień, as well as by his brother Bartłomiej Bargiel, who used his drone not only to scout the route but also to deliver medical supplies to a team member who was stuck in back pain at a high camp and to locate a climber from a different team who had gone missing after summiting nearby Broad Peak (8047m,🇵🇰) and thereby enabling a live-saving rescue.
